Cancers typically occur through the breakdown of mechanisms that control normal cell growth and division. However, the progression of malignant tumors to metastatic growth at distant sites is relatively poorly understood, and constitutes a major focus on cancer research at WCM, in conjunction with the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center. Department faculty use combinations of preclinical models, patient-derived organoids, single cell RNA sequencing and other cutting-edge technologies to study cancers of the breast, lung, colon, bladder, skin, and pancreas.
